Workday and Networkday Day Excel Function

In this video, you will learn about two very important Excel functions: WORKDAY and NETWORKDAYS. These functions are incredibly useful for anyone who needs to perform date calculations that account for working days and exclude weekends.NETWORKDAYS FunctionThe NETWORKDAYS function is used to calculate the number of working days between two given dates. This function excludes weekends, specifically Saturdays and Sundays, from the calculation. This makes it a valuable tool for project managers, financial analysts, and anyone who needs to calculate deadlines or the duration of tasks while considering only the working days. Here’s a basic example of how to use NETWORKDAYS:=NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date)In this formula:start_date is the beginning date of the period you want to calculate.end_date is the ending date of the period you want to calculate. The function will return the total number of working days between these two dates, excluding Saturdays and Sundays. This is particularly useful in business scenarios where you need to know the number of days a project will take, not counting the weekends.Additionally, NETWORKDAYS can also account for holidays. You can add a list of holiday dates that the function will also exclude from the working days count. This can be done using the following format:=NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date, holidays)Here, holidays is a range of cells that contain the holiday dates.WORKDAY FunctionThe WORKDAY function is used to calculate a future or past date by adding or subtracting a specified number of working days from a given start date. This function excludes weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from its calculation, ensuring that the result falls on a working day. Here’s how to use the WORKDAY function:=WORKDAY(start_date, days)In this formula:start_date is the date from which you want to start counting.days is the number of working days you want to add (for a future date) or subtract (for a past date). The WORKDAY function is extremely useful for planning and scheduling in a business context. For example, if you need to set a deadline for a project and you know it will take a certain number of working days to complete, you can use this function to find the exact end date.Similar to NETWORKDAYS, the WORKDAY function can also account for holidays. You can specify a range of holiday dates that the function will exclude from the calculation:=WORKDAY(start_date, days, holidays)This ensures that your future or past date calculations are accurate and account for non-working days like public holidays.ConclusionBoth NETWORKDAYS and WORKDAY are essential tools for managing time and deadlines in a professional setting. They help you make more accurate plans by considering only the days that work will actually be done, excluding weekends and any holidays you specify.By understanding and utilizing these functions, you can improve your efficiency in managing schedules, meeting deadlines, and planning projects. So, make sure to watch my video for a detailed walkthrough on how to use these functions in Excel.
